The Deutsche Kinemathek is a museum of film and television located in Berlin, a national institution with an international profile. At the core of the Deutsche Kinemathek is its collection of core works from the history of film and TV. 24h Berlin will be one of these works: for generations it will be a nationally and internationally unique document of life in this European metropolis at the beginning of the 21st century. This is why we will archive all the material produced for 24h Berlin. We will establish an archive for tomorrow – just imagine how it would be to still have all the stock of Ruttmann’s “Symphony of a Great City” from 1927...

VPRO is a liberal, progressive broadcaster and one of the public
broadcasters in the Netherlands. Curiosity, excellence, quality and a future perspective are the leading values!
We want to bring important, universal stories into the living room and emotionally engage our audience. Documentaries often show what is wrong with the world, but we have chosen to show inspiring films that look and feel current, have the quality of cinema with the rhythm of television. We want to show what moves people and how life affects them. We work closely with the cross media documentary platform Holland Doc: It is a 24/7 digital documentary channel, a weekly radio strand and a website so the audience can view, learn more and react to our content. www.hollanddoc.nl
24hBerlin is a perfect example of the kind of programming we are looking for. It is daring, a new concept, cross media and most of all an inspiring universal contenporary experience. We will show the 24 hours on our digital channel September 5th, deeplink to the website and programme the 90 minute version as the last film in our fall of the wall season.
„When I first heard about the project, I was interested immediately. Berlin is a great city – for us Finns the nearest metropolis. I got to know Berlin through several visits. The most impressive one was my coincidental stay in Berlin on Nov 9, 1989. The twentieth anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall comes into reach: the broadcast of 24h Berlin has the potential to become a big event. The audience in foreign countries has been taken into account: the esteemed cultural channel ARTE will broadcast the programme throughout Europe. YLE Teema allows the Finns to have a view of Berlin. And Volker Heise as director is the right man for this exciting project.“ Ulla Martikainen-Florath (Head of Programming)
On November 9, 2009, we will be celebrating the twentieth anniversary of fall of the Berlin wall. This day has changed the world and Berlin is the symbol of this change. The whole world will be looking at Berlin: What has the city made of its reunification? 24h Berlin is like a jigsaw puzzle, Berlin has 3.4 million facets, as many as it has inhabitants. The city is in constant change and fascinates people of many different origins. In 24h Berlin, they will be telling their stories. The project paints the image of a vibrant European metropolis, with all its stimulating contradictions, with its cultural variety and its innovating dynamism. This is why the Senate Chancellery of Berlin supports 24h Berlin.
24h Berlin will be playing live online globally at THE AUTEURS on September 5th for - you guessed it - 24 hours. After the full-length live screening, THE AUTEURS will be showing each hour of the film project, as well as a condensed, feature-length version of 24h Berlin to watch for free globally on their site.
THE AUTEURS is a global hub for the best of world cinema. It's an online movie theater for foreign, independent, and classic cinema, and an international social networking site for film lovers. Fall in love all over again with the movies, and meet other people who feel just the same way. Think of it as a virtual cinematheque: a place where you leave the dark of the screening room, and find yourself amongst friends.

Experienced correspondents report from the ARD studio in Berlin, providing news reports and background information on national politics for ARD, its regional and radio channels, for PHOENIX, and for tagesschau.de. 24 hours in Berlin are 24 hours of political life, observed by the ARD studio. We are close by and at the same time we maintain a critical distance. This is what we have in common with 24h Berlin: “We explain important political processes to viewers and listeners and we show what consequences political action in Berlin will have for every German citizen,” says Ulrich Deppendorf, head of studio and host of “Bericht aus Berlin” (Report from Berlin), a TV magazine for national politics aired on ARD Sundays at 6.30 p.m.
